Beech Grove Invitational Information will be updated, when available
UNDER CONSTRUCTION: The full schedule for the day is available for below as a PDF attachment for you to reference. New Palestine Choir performance times have been highlighted, for your reference. If you plan to attend and you did not read the information under the "attending a competition" section and "a typical competition day" (or attend the January 6, 2020 parent meeting), you are strongly encouraged to read that information to make sure we are all on the same page.
Here are a few additional points for your information:
Here are a few additional points for your information:
- All choirs perform in the same auditorium location. The "morning session" contains all Women's Show Choirs (Called "Unisex"). The "afternoon session" contains all of the Mixed Show Choirs.
- This competition mostly consists of "small schools", but also includes at least 2 large schools this year (Noblesville and Anderson). In all our previous appearances at this competition, there were no large school attending.
- Note that Twin Lakes is a very small school and the smallest location we will visit this season, next to possibly East Noble High School. (Both schools will make New Pal parents think our school is not so small). Their student enrollment is about 400 students less than New Palestine High School and their auditorium space is much smaller than ours. The entrance to the auditorium, brings you in at the front of the stage and you exit only via the back. Seating can be somewhat challenging as a result of this layout - please plan to be inside the auditorium well ahead of your planned time.
- In the past, cell service at this location has been very limited and has been known to quickly drain a smart phone battery, plus make it difficult to receive texts and calls while in the building.
- A ticket (wristband) of $10 will allow you access to both the morning and afternoon sessions. Twin Lakes will charge another $10 ticket fee for the evening finals that start at 7:15 pm. They offer a full day ticket of $15 that would allow access to both day and night finals for the day. Children age 5 and under are free. If neither New Palestine Show Choirs reach the evening finals, we will pack-up and return home. If either group reaches Night Finals, both choirs will plan to stay until the end of the evening. We have no way to predict if either or both group will make night finals as this is the first competition and there are two large schools attending.
- The Twin Lakes school cafeteria will provide food options for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Concessions. No outside food may be brought into the school. Bringing food into the school could result in disqualification of point penalties for our choirs. Also, bringing outside food into the choir homeroom could result in the same penalty (water is allowed).
- Twin Lakes does not mention photography or video in their communication information, so we are not aware of the restrictions here. Twin Lakes may make announcements on site regarding photos or video and we ask that all New Palestine parents and guests abide by the rules of the host school. Please always follow the rule that if you take pictures or video with a smart phone, that the flash/light must be off. Having the light on or a flash going-off is a big distraction to the performers on the stage. We need all of our students 100% focused on their performance and having a good time, so we ask that you and your family and friends follow this rule and don't use lighting or flash.
- There is no "video review" for the choirs, following the performance. As soon as they are finished with their show, the choirs will return to the homeroom for some feedback from the director, then they will change out of their costumes. It will be 20-25 minutes after the performance before they will be available to speak with you or come back to the auditorium. If you paid for admission to the event, you are strongly encouraged to watch the next group after our choirs just for comparison.
- We will know the top 3 Women's Show Choirs headed to Night Finals at approximately 3:30 pm, but the Mixed Choirs will wait until approximately 6:00 pm at the end of the Mixed Choir performances and top 3 soloists from the Solo Competition. Twin Lakes will award the top large schools and top small schools, in addition to announcing the finalists - at this time both Diamond Sensations and Crimson Heat will be recognized. Each participating choir will be recognized with two performers and there should be an award for each choir for "outstanding performer".
- The schedule indicates that trophies for the top groups will be awarded for the day show, then there will be additional trophies awarded for the night show. There will be a 1-2-3 in the small school category and a 1-2-3 in the large school category. This can be somewhat confusing for first-time parents. They will award trophies for the top 3 large school Unisex groups and the top 3 small school Unisex groups. Diamond Sensations could come in second place in the small tier Unisex division, for example, but not have their name called for night finals earlier in the day because their score, when ranked with both the large and small school Unisex division is below the top 3. The same scenario is true for Crimson Heat in the mixed-choir division. They could finish in the top 4 for Small School, but not make it to Night Finals as their score for Mixed Division, overall, might not be in the top 4. Don't start making plans for the Night Show until you hear the results of the overall top 4 mixed choirs who will be competing again after the Unisex groups in Night Finals.
- Programs will be available for $3.
- Twin Lakes is an ISSMA qualifier. The scores received by either Diamond Sensations or Crimson Heat can be used for submission at ISSMA finals at the end of the season. The best possible score received by either show choir as well as the best possible performance is the primary objective of this first competition.

Competition History and Notes:
- This is the 10th year of the Twin Lakes Vocal Invitational (started in January, 2011).
- This is the fourth time New Palestine show choirs have attended this event (we attended in 2014, 2016 and 2017).
- This would have been our 5th appearance but this competition was cancelled in January, 2019 due to a severe snow storm.
Twin Lakes Recap - congratulations to both Diamond Sensations and Crimson Heat for their second place finish in both small school divisions at Twin Lakes on January 18, 2020. Both groups gave a solid performance and a great start to the 2020 Competition Season. Congratulations to Senior, Briette Basaran, being awarded the "Outstanding Performer" for Diamond Sensations and Senior, Ethan Burton, being awarded "Outstanding Performer" for Crimson Heat. Special congratulations to Sophomore Crimson Heat member, Luke Whitaker, for winning the Oustanding Male Soloist award. During the day, Junior Madyson Ebert and Senior Lyndsay Woodall performed in the solo competition and did a great job as well.
