2023 Show Choir Competition Season
Which schools are we visiting in 2023?
For the 2023 Competition Season, New Palestine High School Show Choirs are attending the following competitions:
Address details and further information on these competition sites can be found on the choir Google calendar for the specific details.
If you plan to attend any competition or if you are a parent chosen to assist , please be sure to review the information at the bottom of this page. The links at the bottom of this page may help explain further regarding details about expectations & responsibilities, as well as an example of what your students will experience on a typical competition day and also what you can expect when attending a Show Choir competition. There's also information about our parent/student crew group, "Diamond Heat Moving Company".
Why Are We Going to These Locations Above? We are attending a few close competition sites (within 45 minutes) and a few that are 1.5-2.5 hours away. This mix should give us an opportunity to compete against some other choirs our same size, but also a few competitions that are "close to home" and fairly easy for parents and fans to attend.
What is an ISSMA Qualifying Site? Ultimately, the objective to competition season is for all of the choir students to have fun, but to grow and develop both individually and as a collective group. A top goal of New Palestine High School Show Choirs is to qualify for inclusion in the top 9 small school show choirs in the state of Indiana. The Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) has specific criteria used to judge choirs and they sponsor certain competitions to ensure that ISSMA rules are followed by all choirs and judges at all sponsored events. At this time, all of the competition sites we plan to attend in 2023 are an ISSMA qualifying competition. The top scores for Diamond Sensations and Crimson Heat at these locations will be submitted to ISSMA for inclusion in State Finals selection. If the scores for either choir are within the top 9 submitted overall in the state of Indiana, then they will be invited to the State Finals on March 18, 2023. While we want the choirs to do well and finish as high as possible at each competition, the true measure will be the overall score at the conclusion of each event. Like a cross-country or marathon runner, each choir will be chasing their own scores to try and improve each week and shouldn't be concerned about where they place at each competition.
