If you are planning to attend this competition, here are a few additional points for your awareness:
- This is the first time New Palestine High School Show Choirs have attended this competition. This is the third year for Garrett High School to host this competition. The first year, this competition was a conflict with East Noble High School, then the second year was a conflict with NPHS hosting ISSMA Solo & Ensemble, so we weren't able to attend either time. This year, they moved the competition to the last weekend of the ISSMA qualification schedule. Because this is our first trip, we appreciate your patience and understanding while we all learn about this new location.
- We are excited that this is a "small schools only" competition, containing small schools only from Indiana and many schools we've seen before this season and some who are typically top finishers at State Finals. This will give us the best view this season of where NPHS Show Choirs stand against similar competition.
- Garrett is running a "Night Finals" for only Small Mixed Schools, not Unisex groups. However, the Grand Champion Unisex winner will perform again at the start of "Night Finals". The top 6 Small Mixed groups will perform again in the "Night Finals".
- Spectators should enter Garrett High School through Door #29 or Door #3 (marked on the outside of the building)
- Spectator parking is located on the North Side of the Garrett High School campus off of Houston Street.
- Ages 5 and under are free. An Admission Ticket for $10 will allow you to see only the "Day Show". If you are a Diamond Sensation or Crimson Heat parent and you are only staying for the day show portion, you want to purchase the $10 ticket. If you are coming for Crimson Heat or Diamond Sensations and you plan to stay for the night finals, if Crimson Heat makes it, then you want to purchase the $15 All-Day ticket option. Note that we believe Crimson has a shot at making the top 6, given the competition and how we've placed so far this season. They need to earn this spot though. If you purchase the day show ticket at $10 and you choose later to stay for the night show, you will need to purchase another $10 ticket for the evening. Keep all of this in-mind as you approach the wrist band table when you enter the building.
- All performances take place on the stage in the Gymnasium at Garrett High School.
- The Garrett Railroader Rush competition is an ISSMA qualifier. The scores received by either Diamond Sensations or Crimson Heat can be used for submission at ISSMA finals. The best possible score received by either show choir is always the primary objective of any competition and not necessarily the final finishing position. Regardless of the expected outcome, both choirs must always give a 100% performance because you don't know what the judges might decide.
- Garrett High School Competition guidelines state, "no flash photography allowed" as the flash from the audience is very distracting to the performers and we need them focused 100% on their performance. They also note no video recording is permitted in the performance area and penalty for violation is removal from the venue. We ask that you proceed cautiously and comply with their requests if they ask for no photography or video.
- There is no video review listed on the schedule or mentioned in the packet. Students will be encouraged to change and get back into the Auditorium to see as many other schools as possible.
- Food - the school cafeteria will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as concessions. No outside food may be brought into the school.
