Competition Follow-Up Notes:
Thank you to everyone who made the trip up to East Noble High School to support the choirs this past weekend. Again, we felt that these were the very best performances either group has given this year so far. Here are the final results from the day at East Noblel:
WOMEN'S DIVISION:
1. New Palestine High School, Diamond Sensations - Grand Champion (Best Choreography and Best Vocals Award)
2. Columbia City High School, City Lights
3. Northrop High School, Allure
MIXED DIVISION:
1. Columbia City High School, City Heat - Grand Champion (Best Choreography Award)
2. New Palestine High School, Crimson Heat (Best Vocals Award)
3. Northrop High School, Charisma (Best Crew Award)
Diamond Sensations had one shot to perform (no night finals) and they brought their very best and convinced the judges that they were the top Mixed Choir. At East Noble, they awarded the top 3 trophies for the day show for the Mixed Choirs. Crimson Heat was not one of the top 3 in the day show (we were # 4). The top 3 in the Day show were New Castle, Garrett and Columbia City. Crimson Heat came from 4th place to capture 2nd place in the Night Show and they were close to Grand Champion - a remarkable accomplishment especially after an extremely long day and 9 hours between performances.
Additional Awards For New Palestine High School:
Both choirs continued to improve and refine their shows this week and there were no major issues. Scores for both groups were improved upon the previous week at Warren Central. This is the second year in-a-row that Diamond Sensations has won "Grand Champion" at a competition. Again this year, they finished ahead of several small school choirs and they beat a very large school, almost twice the size of New Palestine High School. Diamond Sensations again was awarded Best Choreography, which is not a surprise since their show has been receiving a lot of praise from the "Visuals" judges at most competitions. Crimson Heat also had an amazing "come from behind" rise in the final standings and also finishing ahead of a school almost twice the size of New Palestine. Both choirs won "Best Vocals", which is an award we don't often receive and an area where Mr. Beebe has been focusing with both choirs over the past couple of weeks. It was nice to see recognition for the vocal work.
We're now down to the final ISSMA qualifier competition for the 2017 season. Only another week (or two) and the 2017 Competition Season will be in the history books.

Additional Awards For New Palestine High School:
- There was a separate "Solo Competition" in the building at East Noble and we are proud to say that (again) Melissa Anness was awarded "Grand Champion" of the Solo Division. Congratulations to Melissa on another outstanding solo effort.

Here is the one-page summary posted to the Facebook Fan Page on March 1, 2017:
If you are planning to attend this competition, here are a few additional points for your awareness:
- East Noble's 2017 Competition has a Night Finals only for Mixed Choirs. This year, they do not have Women's groups in Night Finals, although there are 6 Women's groups performing. Diamond Sensations will not have an evening performance and they will need to come out strong with their very best performance in the morning. The top 5 overall Mixed choirs will move on to the Night Show.
- This is the second time New Palestine Choirs have attended the "Knight Edition" show choir competition at East Noble High School. The last time we visited was 2014 and the format that year was "no night show" given the number of choirs attending - all choirs had one performance.
- An Admission Ticket for $12 will allow you access to both all of the Unisex and Mixed Show Choir Performances for the entire day. There isn't a "Day Show" ticket and a "Night Show" ticket like we see at most events. Just the one ticket will get you into any event. Children 10 and under are free.
- All performances take place on the stage in Cole Auditorium at East Noble High School.
- This competition, like Twin Lakes, will be comprised mostly of "Small School" show choirs. Only Northrop High School is considered "Large School" by ISSMA standards, but all others are within the "Small School" category. If you are coming to see Diamond Sensations, we recommend you come a little early to see Columbia City as they are usual a strong contender with Diamond Sensations at State Finals and this is the only opportunity to see that group before State Finals. Unlike other competitions, not all Unisex (Women's) groups are together in one block. Dekalb Sound Sensation will be performing last, at the end of the day following the mixed choirs. Dekalb is usually a top contender for State Finals each year and we have seen them twice already. For Crimson Heat, they will see a lot of small schools for the first time. Typically, we've seen some of these choirs already on our schedule. Garret High School, New Castle High School and Columbia City High School are typically ISSMA State Qualifiers. Some of the other mixed groups are ones we have not seen previously and we don't have any information about them.
- The East Noble Knight Edition competition is an ISSMA qualifier. The scores received by either Diamond Sensations or Crimson Heat can be used for submission at ISSMA finals. The best possible score received by either show choir is always the primary objective of any competition and not necessarily the final finishing position. Regardless of the expected outcome, both choirs must always give a 100% performance because you don't know what the judges might decide.
- Because of the distance from New Palestine, if Crimson Heat qualifies for the "Night Show", both groups should plan to remain onsite through the end of the evening awards. The Night Show runs from approximately 8:30 pm through 11:00 pm (arriving back at NPHS around 2:30 am). Note that if Crimson Heat does not qualify for night finals, then we will pack up and return to NPHS around 6:30 pm (arriving back at NPHS around 9 pm).
- East Noble didn't list information about photography. Please be courteous and follow posted and announced guidelines by the host school. For NPHS Choir, we always say, "no flash photography allowed" as the flash from the audience is very distracting to the performers and we need them focused 100% on their performance.
- There is no "video review" listed for East Noble. After their performance, they will return immediately to the home room to change and hang-up outfits, then return to the Auditorium to watch other group performances.
- Food - the school cafeteria will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as concessions. No outside food may be brought into the school.
